OnePlus has announced that it is working on a “new, more affordable smartphone product range” for the upcoming OnePlus budget smartphone, which will be launched first in India and Europe. The company is also working on a new smartphone that could be called OnePlus Z or OnePlus Nord.
OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau and top executive Carl Pei both took on Twitter to tease something new with a teal-coloured OnePlus logo and the hashtag #NewBeginnings. While Lau in his tweeted noted, “Who’s ready for something new from @OnePlus?”, Pei wrote, “It’s time to rock the boat again.”
Pete Lau has shared an official blog post that confirms that it’s a new budget smartphone, the rumoured Nord by OnePlus (or OnePlus Z).
“We are bringing the premium, flagship experience that you’ve come to expect from OnePlus to a new, more affordable smartphone product line,” Lau said in the forum post.
The product team for OnePlus Nord is headed by Paul Yu, who has been responsible for product development at the company for over five years.
The affordable OnePlus phone series will be introduced initially in India and Europe.
“As we have always done when we try something new, we are going to start relatively small with this new product line by first introducing it in Europe and India. But don’t worry, we’re also looking to bring more affordable smartphones to North America in the near future as well,” Lau said.
There may be multiple new phones coming, as Lau uses the term ‘product line’ and one interpretation of this might be that there will be a ‘Pro’ version of the device, but that could simply mean that there will be newer versions in the years to come.
