Vice Chancellor Was JNU Attack ‘Masternind’, Says Congress Fact-Finding Report

JNU vice-chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar should be immediate dismissal and criminal investigation against his role in January 5 violence in the campus, the fact finding-committee of the Congress has recommended.

The Congress had appointed a 4-member fact-finding committee, led by Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev to carry out a detailed inquiry into the violence on January 5 at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

“A criminal investigation must be initiated against the VC, the company that provides security service and faculty members who conspired with the attackers to unleash the violence at Sabarmati hostel, Periyar hostel and other places. The security company’s contract must be immediately terminated,” Sushmita Dev said

“Vice-Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar should be dismissed immediately and an independent inquiry should be set up to look at all appointments made from January 27, 2016 (date of appointment) till date and all other financial and administrative decisions taken during his tenure should also be investigated,” said the report submitted by the fact-finding committee to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday evening.

The fact-finding committee also recommended an immediate rollback of the fee hike as implemented by the university authorities and recognition of JNUSU as an elected body so that proper consultation can take place between the administration and the students on the fee and other issues.

The fact-finding committee, comprising Sushmita Dev, Rajya Sabha member Syed Nasir Hussain, Lok Sabha member Hibi Eden and former Delhi University President Amrita Dhawan, had visited JNU over the past few days and put together a report after interaction with the students, teachers and officials of JNU on January 8.
