Hundreds of women who have been sitting on protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens and National Population Register at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh for the last two months, are on the move today. Their destination is that the residence of Union home minister Amit Shah, and also the aim is to discuss the controversial law.
Anti-CAA protesters have started a march from Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh until Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence over the contentious law that has seen large protests across the country.
Delhi Police said that late Saturday night protesters asked permission for 5000 people to march to the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah which has been denied.
The protesters from Shaheen Bagh had come with an application at 3 pm on Saturday seeking permission to march to Amit Shah’s residence on Sunday, according to Delhi Police.
The application was sent to the New Delhi District from where it was forwarded to the Delhi Police headquarters and the permission has been denied to the Shaheen Bagh protesters.
RP Meena, DCP South East: They(Shaheen Bagh protesters) told us that they wanted to take out a march (to meet HM) but we told them they cannot as they do not have an appointment call from Union Home Minister. We are talking to them and we hope that they will understand,” news agency ANI quoted and posted it on ANI twitter account.
Shaheen Bagh, protesters said they have decided to go to Amit Shah’s residence because he recently announced that anyone with doubts over the CAA could seek an appointment from his office and he would be willing to meet them within the next three days.
