Four students, aged between 10 to 12 six, were killed and eight others injured on Saturday after their school van caught fire in Longowal town of Punjab’s Sangrur district.
It is being told by local souced that there were 12 children in the van, 8 children were safely evacuated.
Police said that the Maruti van of Simran Public School was leaving the children at home towards Longowal. On the way, a sudden fire broke out in the van near village Kehar Singh Wali.
Staff stationed in the van began to evacuate the children, but a rapidly spreading fire engulfed the entire van. 4 children trapped in it died. Police also reached the spot as soon as the information was received.
The driver managed to pull out eight children. The driver is injured in the accident. He is admitted to the hospital in nearby Sunam.
