Princess Sofia of Sweden begun volunteering as a health worker to treat patients infected with coronavirus at the Sophiahemmet hospital in Stockholm on Thursday after 3 days undergoing training at a Stockholm healthcare facility.
The 35-year-old princess is among 80 people a week who have completed the emergency online training to help the hospital, which has been overwhelmed during the COVID-19 outbreak, Daily Mail reported.
On Instagram, she posted a picture of her navy blue scrubs, and her new nametag, with “Sofia” printed in all capital letters, Vogue reported.
“In the crisis, we discover ourselves in, the Princess wants to get included and make a contribution as a voluntary worker to relieve the massive workload of health and fitness care experts,” a spokesperson for the royal court told Royal Central.
Pia Hultkrantz, spokeswoman for Sophiahemmet Healthcare facility said that volunteers, like her, will not be operating immediately with individuals, but allowing medical doctors and nurses the necessary relief through kitchen area shifts, disinfecting devices and cleaning.
Sofia is wife of Prince Carl Philip, 40, has worked closely with the hospital in the past, serving as Honorary Chair since 2016.
The Sophiahemmet Hospital is affiliated with the Sophiahemmet University offering the courses. The hospital has a long association with the Swedish Royal Family, which dates back to 1884.
