J&K DSP Davinder Singh Arrest: Received ₹12 Lakh To Ferry Terrorists To Delhi

DSP Davinder Singh arrested for ‘transporting Hizbul terrorists’ to capital New Delhi in Jammu and Kashmir along with two terrorists Naveed Baba and Altaf. He had received Rs 12 lakh from the terrorists to ferry them to Jammu and then Chandigarh for their onward journey to New Delhi.

He has also come under the scanner for his alleged links with the convict of 2001 parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

After Shopian operation, Inspector general of police of Kashmir Vijay Kumar said, “During an operation in Shopian on January 11, one deputy superintendent of police Davinder Singh was arrested along with two wanted Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, while they were travelling together in a vehicle on National Highway. He was a Pakistani agent, who shielded terrorists and got paid by Hizbul in return for providing protection cover to its men.”

Davinder Singh involvement in the deadly terrorist attack was revealed by Afzal Guru, who was hanged in 2013, in a letter that he wrote to his lawyer Sushil Kumar from Tihar jail.

In the letter, Afzal Guru has referred Davinder Singh as ‘Dravinder’, the convict alleged that Singh and other officers from the J&K police not only tortured him and extorted money, but also introduced him to one of the men who later attacked the Indian Parliament. Davinder Singh asked him to arrange for a car and a place to stay for the attacker.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the police have recovered 2 AK-47 rifles and 5 hand grenades from Devendra Singh’s house. Devendra Singh was arrested when he was going somewhere in a car along with the terrorists.

Devinder Singh had worked for the police for decades and was a member of an elite counter-insurgency force at Srinagar Airport. He was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry on August 15, 2019. He had also received foreign diplomats visiting Jammu and Kashmir on 9th January.

Naveed Baba, a resident of Nazneenpora in Shopian, is an ex-policeman who disappeared in 2017 from central Kashmir’s Budgam along with four rifles and joined the Hizbul Mujahideen. He was the second top commander of Hizbul in South Kashmir after Riyaz Naikoo.
