WhatsApp to stop working on Windows, older Android, iOS phones

The Facebook-owned messaging platform, WhatsApp, had earlier this year announced that it would drop support for all smartphones running on the Windows Phone operating system. WhatsApp would also stop working on millions of older Android and iOS versions starting February 1, 2020.

WhatsApp has announced in an official blog that it will not be able to support on all phones running on the Windows Phone operating system after December 31. Therefore, people using WhatsApp on their ageing Windows Phone should either get themselves a new phone or join some other messaging apps to continue chatting with friends.

Microsoft stopped supporting Windows Phone OS earlier this year. The company had advised Windows Phone OS users to switch to Android or iOS devices as it would stop sending new security updates after December 10, 2019.

WhatsApp wrote in a post, “Because we no longer actively develop for these operating systems, some features might stop functioning at any time. For the best experience, we recommend you use the latest version of Android or iOS available for your phone.”

WhatsApp has officially announced that all iPhones running iOS 7 and older OS versions will no longer support WhatsApp. In addition, WhatsApp will also stop working on Android phones running on versions 2.3.7 and older.
