Amazon is the latest company to cancel its plans for the Mobile World Congress 2020, scheduled from Feb. 24 to 27 in Barcelona, over coronavirus-related concerns.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC), the wireless industry’s premier event of the year, has lost its many attendees including South Korea’s LG, U.S. chipmaker NVIDIA and Swedish equipment maker Ericsson.
“Due to the outbreak and continued concerns about the new coronavirus, Amazon will withdraw from exhibiting and participating in Mobile World Congress 2020,” the corporate said during a statement on Sunday.
Huawei and ZTE are still attending despite the outbreak having its roots in China, although they’ve told Chinese staff to isolate themselves and have pulled in European workers to hide for employees who can’t go.
The event’s organizer, GSMA, recently issued a replacement statement about precautions it’s taking, including a ban on visitors from Hubei province, where the epidemic is believed to possess begun. Travellers from China also will get to demonstrate proof, like a passport stamp or health certificate, that they have been outside of China for 14 days before the event.
