India vs New Zealand 1st ODI at Hamilton Today

The first match of the 3 ODI series between India and New Zealand will be played in Hamilton today. Mayank Agarwal got a chance in the team in place of injured Rohit Sharma before the match. Team India will play after 3 years without Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, both players did not play against England in Kolkata on 22 January 2017.

Team India has not lost any series against New Zealand for 6 years. India is invincible from three series against the Kiwi team. The last time New Zealand beat India 4–0 was in their home country in January 2014. At the same time, in the previous series, the Indian team won 4–1 in January 2019.

So far 107 ODIs have been played between India and New Zealand. Team India won 55, lost 46. There was a tie, while 5 remained untouched. New Zealand won 22 matches on home grounds, 14 lost, 1 was tie and 2 matches could not get the result. Before the start of the ODI series, one bad news has emerged for both the teams. Indian opener Rohit Sharma will not able to play this series because he has suffered a calf injury in the last T20 played on February 2.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will also not play the first two ODIs due to shoulder injury during the third match in T20. Tom Latham will captain of the New Zealand team in his absence and Mark Chapman joined the team in place of Williamson.

“Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal will open in the match. While Lokesh Rahul will play at number 5. This will strengthen the team in the opening and middle order, ” Captain Virat Kohli said.

Mayank Agarwal has been given the chance to replace Rohit in the Indian team. Mayank will play his first ODI series, he has played test matches and he scored 872 runs in 9 Tests at an average of 67.07. He scored 2 double centuries in Tests.
