A 50-year-old man was undergoing treatment for the novel coronavirus in Bengaluru’s Victoria Hospital killed himself early on Monday (27 April) morning by jumped from the trauma ward, that is located in the sixth floor of the hospital’s building.

He was entered the sixth floor of the fire escape, which was open to repair the lift and jumped to his death. He died on the spot, and his body was transferred to the mortuary with due care.

The patient responded to the treatment and reportedly did well. Dr. Jayanthi, director of Victoria Hospital, confirmed the suicide case and said that all precautions had been taken. He had his breakfast before taking this extreme step and the incident was confirmed to have taken place right after Monday’s morning rounds, the quint quoted by source from Victoria Hospital.

According to Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr Sudhakar, the deceased was admitted to the hospital on April 24 with a severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and had no travel history. He was also suffering from chronic renal failure or chronic kidney disease (CKD) and was undergoing dialysis.

As of 27 April, Karnataka accounts for 511 of India’s 28,380 confirmed cases of Covid-19. The state has reported 188 recoveries and 20 coronavirus-related deaths to date. As many as 101 of these confirmed cases have been registered from Bengaluru, according to data.
